Klipt Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026
Summary
Klipt is a clipboard companion app. It shows your Mac's clipboard history on your iPhone and lets you send items back to your Mac. Klipt has no servers and no account system. We — the developers — never receive, store, or have access to your clipboard data or any other personal information. Everything stays on your devices and inside your own private Apple iCloud storage, protected by your Apple Account.
In Apple's terms, Klipt does not “collect” any data: nothing is transmitted to the developer or to any third party.
This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what information the app handles, where it lives, and how you stay in control of it.
Who we are
Klipt is developed by Cory Naegle (“we,” “us,” “Klipt”). This policy covers the Klipt iOS app and its share extension. Klipt also has a companion macOS app; where relevant, this policy explains how the two work together.

Our core privacy principle: no servers, your data stays with you
Klipt does not operate any backend servers, databases, or analytics services. There is no Klipt account to create and no Klipt login.
The Klipt iOS app communicates only with your own private iCloud container (iCloud.dev.klipt), which is part of your personal Apple iCloud storage and is accessible only to you through your Apple Account. The Klipt macOS app writes your clipboard history into that same private container, and the iOS app reads it. Apple delivers the data between your devices; we are never in that path and have no ability to see it.
Information Klipt handles
The following describes information the app processes on your device and within your private iCloud. None of it is sent to us.
1. Clipboard history synced from your Mac
When you use the Klipt macOS app, it records items you copy on your Mac (this is something you control on the Mac). That history is placed in your private iCloud container so it can appear on your iPhone. Depending on what you copied, an item may include:
- Text you copied (notes, snippets, links).
- Images you copied or screenshots you captured on the Mac. Images are stored as separate files in your private iCloud container and downloaded to your iPhone only when you open them.
- File references (the names/paths of files you copied — Klipt syncs the reference, not the file contents).
- Item metadata, such as the time it was copied, the originating app's name, and, for web copies, the source page URL.
On the iPhone, Klipt keeps a local cached copy of this history so it can display quickly and work offline. The cache lives in the app's own private storage on your device.
2. Items you choose to send to your Mac
Klipt lets you send content from your iPhone to your Mac. This only happens when you explicitly choose to do so:
- Text you type or paste into Klipt and tap “Send.”
- Photos or images you select using the iOS system photo picker, or content you share into Klipt through the share extension. Images are automatically downsized before sending to keep them small.
When you send an item, Klipt writes it into your private iCloud container so your Mac can pick it up. Again, this stays inside your own iCloud; it is never sent to us.
Klipt accesses your photo library only through Apple's standard system picker, and only for the specific photos you choose. Klipt does not browse, scan, or read your photo library.
3. Device information
When you send an item to your Mac, Klipt includes a generic device model label (for example, “iPhone”) so you can tell which device an item came from. On modern iOS versions this is a generic model name, not your personal device name, and Klipt does not request the permission required to read your personal device name.
4. On-device app data
Klipt stores small amounts of operational data locally on your iPhone, including a record of items you have deleted (so they stay deleted) and your in-app settings. This data is stored in the app's private storage and is removed when you delete the app.
What Klipt does not access
- Klipt does not monitor, read, or capture your iPhone's clipboard. It only displays items synced from your Mac and only copies an item to your iPhone clipboard when you explicitly tap to copy it.
- Klipt does not use advertising or tracking technologies, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not contain third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Klipt does not access your location, contacts, microphone, camera, health data, or browsing history.
How this information is used
Information is used for one purpose only: to provide the app's clipboard sync features — showing your Mac clipboard history on your iPhone, downloading an image when you open it, and sending items you choose back to your Mac. Because we never receive your data, we cannot and do not use it for any other purpose, including advertising, profiling, or analytics.
How information is stored and transferred
Your Klipt data is stored in your private Apple iCloud container and synchronized between your devices by Apple's iCloud service. This storage is tied to your Apple Account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy (apple.com/legal/privacy) and iCloud terms. Data in transit between your devices and iCloud is encrypted by Apple using standard transport encryption.
Klipt uses only standard, exemption-eligible encryption (HTTPS/iCloud transport security) and includes no proprietary or non-exempt cryptography.
Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with anyone, because we never receive it in the first place. There are:
- No third-party recipients. Klipt integrates no third-party data, advertising, or analytics services.
- No sale or “sharing” of personal information as those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws (including the CCPA/CPRA). Klipt does not sell or share your personal information.
- No developer access. We have no technical means to access the contents of your private iCloud container.
The only platform involved in transferring your data is Apple iCloud, acting on your behalf under your Apple Account.
Data retention and deletion
You are in control of your Klipt data at all times.
- Delete an item on iPhone: Deleting a clip in the Klipt iOS app removes it from the on-screen history and from the app's local cache on your device, and records it as deleted so it does not reappear when your Mac re-syncs.
- Delete on your Mac: Removing items in the Klipt macOS app removes them from your private iCloud container, so they stop syncing to your other devices.
- Stop syncing / withdraw consent: You can turn off Klipt's iCloud sync in the Klipt macOS app's settings, sign out of or disable iCloud Drive on your device, or delete the Klipt apps. Deleting the iOS app removes its local cache and settings from your iPhone.
- Delete everything: Because your data lives in your private iCloud container, you can remove all Klipt data by deleting it in the apps and/or removing the app's iCloud data from Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your Apple devices.
We do not set our own retention period because we do not hold your data; retention is determined entirely by what you keep on your devices and in your iCloud.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to withdraw consent.
Because Klipt stores your information only on your own devices and in your own iCloud — and we never receive it — you can exercise these rights directly, without contacting us, by viewing, editing, or deleting your data in the apps and in iCloud as described above. If you have questions about how to do this, or believe data is being handled inconsistently with this policy, contact us at support@kliptapp.io and we will help.
Where processing of your own data within Klipt relies on a legal basis under GDPR, that basis is your consent (which you give by enabling sync and choosing to send items) and the performance of the app's core function at your request.
Children's privacy
Klipt is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Klipt does not collect data, no information about any user — including children — is transmitted to us.
Security
Your Klipt data is protected by the security of your Apple devices and your Apple Account, including your device passcode/biometrics and iCloud's transport encryption. We strongly recommend protecting your devices with a passcode and enabling two-factor authentication on your Apple Account. Because we operate no servers and hold no copy of your data, there is no central Klipt database that could be breached.
International users
Your Klipt data is stored and synchronized by Apple iCloud and may be processed by Apple in the regions where Apple operates iCloud, in accordance with Apple's own policies. We do not control where Apple stores iCloud data and we do not transfer your data ourselves.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the app's functionality changes. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the app or its App Store release notes. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
